Instructions for guests
Hovimäki estate
Hovimäki Manor was built by the Tichanoffs in 1854. The Manor has definitely had time to build up a diverse history over the course of several decades. The Manor was originally built as an accommodation facility for the office staff and customers of the water sawmill. In addition to that, exemplary livestock farming was also practiced in the Manor. There was a big barn next to the building and even the village's first telephone was found in the house! Since then, the Manor has operated as, to mention a few, a residential building, a forest office and a nursing home, until a local restaurateur bought the building in the 80’s. The look of the place remained the same for decades, until the previous entrepreneurs in the restaurant and hospitality industry (2019-2022) renovated the Manor. Now the Manor is going through its second significant transformation in the 21st century, and will also be used for the same purpose in the future, of course, respecting the history of the place.

We are part of the nature – we act responsible
**We want to provide our guests with a holistically sustainable accommodation experience.**
Sustainable development and environmental considerations are an essential part of our daily work. We actively strive to prevent and reduce the environmental impact of our operations, continuously improving our practices and setting new goals every year to promote sustainability.
For 2025, our responsibility goals include further enhancing recycling in room cleaning and restaurant operations. This will allow us to better accommodate different customer groups and their specific needs in the future.
**Energy Efficiency**
Our biggest environmental impact comes from heating, electricity, and water consumption. We actively work to reduce our energy and water usage, minimize waste production, and improve waste sorting. We regularly monitor our environmental efficiency by measuring water, electricity, and energy consumption, as well as the amount of waste generated. To reduce packaging waste, we offer soap and detergents in refillable containers.
**Making Better Choices**
Our purchases have indirect environmental effects, particularly regarding food and chemicals. Our breakfast selection includes local, seasonal, and eco-labeled products, and we aim to increase their share even further. Reducing food waste is also a key goal—we encourage our guests to contribute to this effort. Our procurement policy is responsible: the majority of the products we use come from companies with their own sustainability plans or a recognized environmental certification. We also prioritize domestic products, local fish, vegetables, meat, and other natural resources from the region.
**Community Engagement**
We promote social sustainability in our region and for the well-being of our guests. As a family-run business, the health, safety, and equality of our staff are of utmost importance to us. We participate in local events and support youth employment, for example, by providing summer job opportunities. Additionally, we collaborate with other businesses in Enonkoski and the Savonlinna region to improve overall well-being and employment in the area.
**Accessibility in Hotel and Restaurant Services**
All accommodations at Enonkosken Kartano & Guesthouse are fully accessible, as are the restaurant and meeting facilities.
We strive to serve all guests equally, regardless of gender or other characteristics.
**Preserving Cultural Heritage**
The main building of Enonkosken Kartano is already 170 years old and a significant part of Enonkoski’s history.
We have made every effort to renovate and maintain it with great respect for its cultural heritage.
✅ **We support the local economy responsibly**
